Two SAGDB girls off to SA Amateur
Two girls from the SA Golf Development Board’s programme in the Boland will be competing in the Sanlam SA Amateur Championships at the end of March. 17-year old Hybre Davids from Somerset West and 15-year old Stellenbosch golfer Kelly Cyster have been entered into the prestigious event by Boland Ladies Golf.
The two girls have both come through the ranks of the development board since being introduced to the sport by the SAGDB. Their excellent progress has encouraged Boland Ladies Golf to give them the opportunity to test themselves at the country’s top amateur ladies event.
The SAGDB’s development coach in the Helderberg, Josh Bezuidenhout, is thrilled that two of his players will have the chance to compete at this level.
“It’s going to be a great experience for them to play in this big event,” he says. “It will motivate them to go out and compete against top players. It’s a great honour.”
The ladies union has been a strong supporter of the development programme for many years, and their support for these two girls is a further indication of their commitment to growing the game of golf.
“They offer extra clinics and give some of our girls opportunities to play on more courses, like De Zalze,” Bezuidenhout explains. “There’s also a regular monthly tournament for juniors being run by the Boland ladies.”
