Eight SAGDB players off to SA Games

The SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) will be strongly represented at this year’s SA Games to be held in the Free State from 25 to 28 September. Eight SAGDB players from five different regions have been selected to play for their respective provinces.

Golf is one of the 13 sporting codes being contested at the games, which will attract top young athletes from across the country. Each province will be sending two u/18 girls, two u/18 boys and two u/16 boys for the golf event.

The Eastern Cape team will have the largest SAGDB representation, with four players from the six member team coming from the development programme. Both u/16 players in the team are currently members of the board’s coaching programme in Border. Thabo Jim will be competing in the games for the first time, while Odwa Ngwane will be making his second appearance at the event.

17-year old Andile Adam from Port Elizabeth has been selected as one of the province’s u/18 boys, while the Border’s Abongile Ngcwame will be in the girls team.

The most exciting selection for the SAGDB is that of 14-year old Hilton Buis for the Western Cape side. The youngster from George is showing tremendous potential, and the province’s decision to include him as one of their u/16 players will be a boost for his confidence.

The SAGDB will be represented by two players will be in the Free State team. Scratch handicap player Neo Thubisi has been chosen as one the u/18 players, while Thabo Ramathinyane was selected at u/16 level.

Musiwalo Nethunzwi, the board’s top player in Gauteng, has been chosen as one of his province’s u/18 boys. Nethunzwi, who plays off a +1 handicap, recently won the Soweto Club Championships.
