Success for SAGDB’s Zingela

One of the SA Golf Development Board’s (SAGDB) top coaches, Mzuyanda Zingela from Port Elizabeth, is competing in the SA Amateur taking place this week at Humewood GC. Zingela has been very successful in developing young golfers in the area, partly because of his own accomplishments as a player.

Zingela secured his place in the country’s top amateur event by clinching one of only three available places for the Eastern Cape at the qualifying event played in Walmer in early February. He has already played in the competition a number of times, and the development board is hopeful that another good performance from him will encourage the youngsters he coaches to strive to match his achievements.

In addition to this success, Zingela was also invited to play as a reserve for the South African national team in a test match against France on Thursday 1 March. 42-year old Zingela last represented the country in 2001, and his elevation confirmed that he is still highly regarded by the national administrators.

He played an excellent round to win his game against the French reserve player two-and-one on the second last hole.
