Support for development at Prince’s Grant

Prince’s Grant Golf Club has shown its commitment to golf development in KwaZulu-Natal by “adopting” a new SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) chapter. The club is covering all the costs of providing coaching to a group of underprivileged children from nearby areas.

“The relationship is very strong between the club and the SAGDB,” explains the development board’s manager in KZN, Joseph Kunene. “We are assisting them to run the programme effectively and they are using our coaching manual.”

The club is currently offering coaching once a week to 16 youngsters from New Geulderland Farm School. This pilot project will hopefully be expanded soon to accommodate more junior players from the surrounding areas.

Prince’s Grant club manager, Brendon Main, initiated contact with the SAGDB to add the club’s support to golf development. The “adopt-a-chapter” programme invites clubs, municipalities and other interested bodies to back the development programme by covering the costs associated with coaching up to 60 learners.

The SAGDB recognises that development must be a collective task and has begun the “adopt-a-chapter” programme to broaden support for the national coaching programme. The eThekwini District Municipality is also supporting the development programme through its support for an SAGDB chapter in KwaMashu. The new chapter is serving aspiring junior golfers from a number of schools in the township.

The SAGDB’s coaching programme is approved by the PGA of South Africa and endorsed by all of South Africa’s official golfing bodies.  More than 3,000 learners across the country are currently benefiting from the board’s coaching initiatives.
