Lions Club Boosts SAGDB

The Somerset West Lions Club has given the SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) programme in the area a huge helping hand by raising R20 000 at a fundraising golf day on the 18th of February. The day, which was supported by Somerset West Golf Club, was put together as a joint effort between the Lions Club and the SAGDB.

The project, which was the first of its kind in the country, was put in place to build up a transport fund for young golfers in the Helderberg area. The money will be administered by the Lions Club and made available to the SAGDB as and when it needs to transport players to SA Golf Foundation and other tournaments.

Over 100 golfers played in the day, and local sponsors also contributed significantly to the day’s success. To give greater exposure to the work being done for junior golf in the area, one player from the SAGDB or the Somerset West GC junior programme played in each fourball.

The SAGDB hopes that the incredible success of the day will encourage clubs in other regions to form partnerships with their local Lions Clubs to raise funds in a similar way. The more support the development programme can receive from local communities, the more sustainable it will become.
