Daniels does it again

One of the SA Golf Development Board’s brightest young stars, 11-year old Kim Daniels from Port Elizabeth, won the ladies B-division at the Sanlam Cancer Challenge national finals in early October.

Daniels’ achievement is not only remarkable because of her age, but because she won the C-division in the same competition last year.

“We’re incredibly proud of what Kim has achieved,” said SAGDB media liaison Patrick Cairns. “She’s an exciting young player, and she’s getting reward for the hard work she puts in to her golf.”

Playing off a 16-handicap, Daniels shot rounds of 91 and 93 for a total of 59 Stableford points at the event. The win was also dramatic, as Daniels was one point behind the leader on the 36th and final hole. She bogeyed the hole to take two points, while her opponent failed to score, earning her the title by a single point.

“For a player of her age to show that kind of composure under pressure is just brilliant,” Cairns said. “It shows she’s got more than just a great golf swing. We’re looking forward to watching Kim progress over the next few years and hopefully she continues to do as well as she is now.”
