Good performances from SAGDB players in KZN

The golf development programme in KwaZulu-Natal continues to show positive results. The province’s development coaches are going to extra lengths to give their support to the players in the development programme and their commitment is showing in the results being achieved in the region.

A number of players from the SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) competed in tournaments during the recent round of SA Junior Golf Foundation competitions in the province, and a few of them did very well.

One of the best performances came from 13-year old Samishka Moodley, who won the C-division of the Hayes Junior Classic event at the Royal Durban Golf Club by scoring 44 stableford points off her 20 handicap. Samishka’s victory qualified her to represent KZN at the national finals of the Hayes Junior Classic which will be played at Zebula Country Club in September.

Walter Melevu performed well in the Alfred County Championships played at Port Shepstone. Walter carded a round of 85 off his 16 handicap to finish tied third in the B-division on gross and tied first overall on nett score. He was however awarded fourth place in the gross and second in the nett on count outs.

Siphiwe Mhlongo and Sambulo Mhlongo enjoyed a particularly good run of results in the C-division events. Siphiwe won his division at the Alfred County Championships and finished second in at the Wild Coast and Umhlali Junior Championships.

Sambulo was the divisional winner at the Wild Coast and ended runner-up at the Hayes Junior Classic.

In other results, Mthokozisi Khoza finished third in the B-division of the Purtell Trophy competition at Southbroom, while Sithembiso Mweli won the prize for the third best nett overall at the Alfred County Championships.
