Free State SAGDB players selected to provincial team

The golf development programme in the Free State continues to produce positive results. Two youngsters from the ranks of the SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) in the region have been selected to represent their province during May.

14-year old Sello Lebeko from Bloemfontein and 15-year old Ntsoaki Mokoena from Qwa-Qwa have both been chosen to play in the u/16 interprovincial tournament in Aliwal North from the 1st to the 4th of May.

“The hard work and commitment from our development coaches has again born fruits,” says the SAGDB’s manager for the region, Ratha Motaung. “Both of these players are excited and looking forward to representing their province.”

Mokoena is one of the most promising girls in the region’s development programme. She also represented Free State in the inter-governmental games in Mpumulanga earlier this year, where she competed against teams from KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Swaziland and Mozambique.

“Ntsoaki is a long hitter and her long drives give her an advantage,” says Motaung. “Although she struggles with her putting, here coach is working on perfecting this.”

Motaung says that Lebeko’s greatest strength is his short game, and his putting is excellent.

“There is much for these two to learn in these kinds of tournaments, particularly discipline, sportsmanship and integrity,” Motaung says. “The standard of performance is also very high in these competitions and our children will be able to judge themselves against their fellow players.”
