Two SA Golf Development Board boys in Boland u/14 team
Two players from the SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) programme in Boland will be representing their province at the SA Boys u/14 tournament at Kloof Golf Club in Durban from 28 June to 1 July. The national event is the biggest tournament of the year for players in this age group.Trevor Thomas from Atlantis and Aldean Swartz from Ceres are currently first and second on the Boland u/14 order of merit respectively and were therefore selected as the top players in the squad. “Both Trevor and Aldean have played for Boland at u/12 and u/13 level,” says the SAGDB’s development manager for the region, Andre Rossouw. “While they were chosen as part of the Boland team for this event, they will be competing individually.”Trevor has been part of the SAGDB programme for a number of years, but Aldean has only recently started benefiting from the board’s support.“Aldean is based at the Ceres Golf Club and because we weren’t active there, he wasn’t able to join our programme,” Rossouw explains. “We were able to make him a member earlier this year as we are moving into more clubs and want to develop the talent that is available across the region.”About the SAGDB: Founded in 1999, the SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is the only body officially tasked with growing the game of golf in South Africa. The SAGDB is a non-profit organisation (with section 18A donations tax exemption status) and is fully endorsed by government and all of South Africa's official golfing bodies. Through its PGA-approved coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 3,500 children per week in ten regions. The SAGDB is sponsored by SAA, City Lodge, the Pro Shop, ProRange and ExpandaSign.
