SAGDB players shine at WP Boys & Girls Championship

Hilmi Mallick won the A division plate matchplay title at the Grindrod WP Boys and Girls Championship

A total of 23 players from the SAGDB entered the Grindrod WP Boys & Girls Junior Championship held at Somerset West Golf Club last month. The tournament begins with a strokeplay competition, which then also serves as a qualifier for the matchplay championships.

In the A division of the boys event, the SAGDB's Marcelo van Rooyen carded rounds of 76 and 71 to finish 4th in the strokeplay. Hilmi Mallick secured 10th place, after rounds of 77 and 75.

There was an SAGDB clean sweep in the B division, however, with players from the development programme securing the top three spots. Jaden Philander finished first on an 18-hole score of 76, with Mikail Munga second on 81 and Jermaine Geduld third on 82.

The top 8 players from the A division stroke play went into the cup event for the matchplay, but unfortunately Marcelo could not continue his good form into that event. Hilmi however qualified for the A division plate as one of the next 8 best qualifiers, and soared through to take the title.

In the B division Mikail was once again on song and secured victory.
