Haydn Porteous won his maiden European Tour title earlier this year when he claimed a two-stroke victory at the Joburg Open. It was a big moment for a youngster who has always shown incredible potential.

When he turned pro in 2013 Haydn was the top-ranked amateur in South Africa. He had won the South African Stroke Play Championships in both 2012 and 2013.

His rise through the amateur rankings and onto the professional circuit is an example that many young golfers will hope to emulate, and at the recent Central Gauteng Golf Union junior awards dinner, he would have inspired many of them to aim for exactly that.

Haydn spent the evening with youngsters in the province, including a number of players from the SAGDB who received recognition for their achievements. They all left inspired.

"The kids were all very excited to speak to Haydn and have a photo taken with him," said the SAGDB's development manager for Central Gauteng, Andy Ostle.
