Golf in the Garden Route supports local development

Owner of Golf in the Garden Route, Mariska Nortje (back) hands over the cheque to the SAGDB at George Golf Club

Golf tourism company Golf in the Garden Route has once again lent its support to the SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) in the Southern Cape. The company handed over a cheque for R7 000 to the SAGDB at the George Golf Club to aid the development of local players.

The funds were raised during the recent 6th Annual Ultimate Garden Route Road Trip, which is a special experience organised by Golf in the Garden Route. The tour covered nine golf courses in seven days towards the end of March, giving the 58 players from around the world a rare opportunity to experience the very best this part of the country has to offer in just one week.

Players on the tour teed up at Goose Valley, Plettenberg Bay, Simola, Pezula, George, Kingswood, Oubaai, Mossel Bay and Pinnacle Point. For the second year in a row they also contributed to funds raised for the SAGDB.

The R7 000 received from Golf in the Garden Route will support coaching in in the six chapters run by the development programme in the Southern Cape. The SAGDB currently coaches around 115 young golfers from disadvantaged backgrounds in the George area every week, and another 70 in other areas of the region such as Mossel Bay and Riversdale.
