More support from Sun International

Over the last few years, Sun International has made a number of major contributions to the SAGDB. Both through the Sports Trust its own initiatives, it has become a true example of how corporate support can make a real difference to growing golf within South Africa.

The group came to the party again recently when it handed over a large donation of Nedbank Golf Challenge-branded clothing to the SAGDB. The clothes will be distributed to leading SAGDB players to ensure that they can step onto the course looking and feeling on top of their games.

"From an SAGDB pint of view it's essential that our players are given the opportunity to feel good about their appearance," said SAGDB Chairman Selwyn Nathan. "One needs to look in the mirror and be proud of how one looks and feels. So this is not a handout. This is something that is going to contribute to the positive well-being of these youngsters."

The donation included over 200 caps and 190 golf shirts, as well as towels, skirts, shorts and trousers. All will be put to good use in the SAGDB's programmes across the country.

In accepting the handover, Nathan also acknowledged the ongoing role that Sun International is playing in supporting the growth of golf at grassroots level.

"Sun International has been a partner of the SAGDB for a number of years and they continue to support us in various ways," he said. "We're looking to grow this relationship for the benefit of the players. We really appreciate what they do. "

Nathan also expressed his hope that more corporates would follow Sun International's lead in getting behind the SAGDB's programmes.

"Each element of sponsorship has a role to play," he said. "Clothing, equipment, transport or accommodation all contribute the opportunities we are able to provide our players."
