SAGDB presence to be felt at u/23 IPT

15 year old Keelan Africa has been selected to play for Boland at the 2012 u/23 inter-provincial tournament

The u/23 Inter-Provincial Tournament (IPT) is one of the key breeding grounds for South Africa's golfing talent. The highly competitive event is an opportunity for the country's top young golfers to test themselves against their peers.

This year, the Boland team at the u/23 IPT will include three players with SAGDB connections, including the talented 15 year old Keelan Africa. Keelan, who is also a member of the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation, earned his selection on merit, by currently being in eighth place on the provincial u/23 order of merit.

He will be joined in the team by SAGDB graduates Jacquin Hess and Cedric Rooi, who are first and second on the order of merit respectively. Both will be playing at the event for the fourth consecutive year.

"Jacquin and Cedric have been winning tournaments consistently lately and this shows all of our players that they will be able to do the same one day," says the SAGDB's head coach in Boland, Isaac Mahoney. "These two have become role models in the eyes of the younger players and ambassadors for the game and the SAGDB."

The KZN team will also contain an SAGDB graduate, with Phiwakahle Mkhoma selected to represent his province. The youngster from Port Shepstone has been in excellent form over the last few months, and his selection is just reward for a string of good performances, including his victory at the 2011 Southern KZN Open Championships in November last year.
