For the first time in 2012 the Western Cape Sport School has added golf to the list of sporting codes it offers. The first intake into this new programme is four SAGDB players, three of whom are also members of the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation (EEFF).
Trevor Thomas, Chesley Gamba and Dylan Jacobs, who represent both the SAGDB and EEFF as well as the SAGDB's Nesville Croy have been accepted into the school to pioneer its golf curriculum.
The school is based in Kuils River, and the four golfers will therefore have practice and playing sessions at the nearby Kuils River Golf Club. They will also be members at the club.
"These players will really have a great opportunity to better their golf," says the SAGDB's junior co-ordinator for Boland Shawn Adriaanse. "They will also have the chance to get onto the golf course almost every day, which wasn't possible in the past."
The school's training programme and playing schedule will be put together by the Swingfit Golf Academy. The boys will receive coaching both from Swingfit's teaching professionals as well as the SAGDB's development coaches.
"The school will also be responsible for the academic development and fitness training of the learners," Adriaanse says. "All four are staying at a hostel on the school grounds."
The school is currently looking for more players to enter its new golf programme. |
