First win for Ruben

SAGDB junior Ruben Raubenheimer got 2012 off to the perfect start when he claimed the Somerset West Junior Open in early January. The event, which was played on Ruben's home course, was the first Western Province Junior Golf event of the year.

In humid, but relatively windless conditions, Ruben shot an excellent round of two-under par 70 to take the title by a single shot. His round included five birdies and three bogeys.

This was the first junior title for the 16-year old, and will hopefully encourage him on to greater achievements.

Former SAGDB player Devon Thomas, who is now with the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation, finished tied for second at the event.
