Two promising youngsters from the SAGDB's programme in Western Province have been selected to represent their region at the 2011 Ke Nako SA u/12 Team Championship. The event, which is the biggest national tournament at this age level, will be held at Kingswood Golf Estate in George from 3 to 5 October.

Nine year old Tristan Galant and 11 year old Hilmi Mallick will be part of the six member WP team competing at the event. The two were selected after strong showings at the u/12 trials held over two weeks in late August. Tristan shot two rounds of 78, while Hilmi carded rounds of 79 and 84 to earn his place.

"Both players played very well," notes the SAGDB's development manager for WP Rodney Hess. "Their scores were good enough to get them selected on merit."

Tristan's inclusion in the team is especially exciting given his age. Hess believes he has tremendous potential.

"Tristan shows dedication and drive way above his age," Hess says. "He also enjoys the positive influences of his father and uncle who are both in the golfing industry."

Hilmi's progress has also been impressive and his commitment to the sport is reaping dividends.

"Hilmi is very dedicated and practices seven days a week," Hess says. "He is also a member of a schools league team where he is competing with players much older than he is, and this has given him the confidence and self-belief that anything is possible."
