Enjoying the Road to Pezula

Dylan Jacobs was one of three SAGDB Boland players that won their places on the Road to Pezula weekend

This year Boland Junior Golf introduced an exciting new initiative for its players called "The Road to Pezula". The aim of the project was to select the top junior players in each age group for a special weekend of coaching and playing at the Pezula Championship Golf Course in Knysna.

The eight players, one each from u/12 to u/19 level, were chosen based on the respective orders of merit at the start of August. When the selections were made, three of those chosen were members of the SAGDB.

Riaan Rooi, Dylan Jacobs and Keelan Africa topped the u/12, u/14 and u/15 orders of merit respectively. Their reward was a weekend in Knysna run by Swingfit Performance Academy that included performance coaching and two rounds of golf on the scenic Pezula course.

"It was a wonderful experience," said Keelan Africa after the event. "The food was awesome and the course was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen or played on."

Riaan Rooi agreed, saying that the course was excellent. Although he was the youngest and therefore took some ribbing from his fellow golfers, he thoroughly enjoyed it.

Dylan Jacobs agreed that the weekend was an excellent experience, although he said he didn't get much sleep due to the boys playing practical tricks on each other during the night.

"We learned a lot and it was great playing on such a nice course," he said. "I didn't play as well as I would have liked, but perhaps that was because I had to sleep with one eye open!"
