Success at Maggersfontein

Mojalefa Xaba won his second junior title of the season at Maggersfontein

Two SAGDB players put in winning performances at the recent Free State and Northern Cape Junior Golf tournament at Maggersfontein Estate Golf Club. Mojalefa Xaba and Tumelo Molloyi, who are both also associate members of the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation, won the u/19 and u/16 divisions of the competition respectively.

Mojalefa has established himself as one of the SAGDB's top players and is putting in consistently good performances at junior events. He has also earned selection to age group provincial teams at u/14, u/16 and now u/19 level.

"By winning this tournament, Mojalefa has pushed himself higher on the order of merit," says the SAGDB's development manager for Free State and the Northern Cape, Ratha Motaung. "This is also the second tournament he has won this year."

Similarly, Tumelo has improved tremendously since joining the SAGDB's programme in 2009 and subsequently being selected into the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation.

"Tumelo joined the SAGDB programme two years ago," Motaung says. "At the time he was coached by his father, who requested us to help him. After joining the SAGDB, he has gained real confidence and winning the u/16s division at this event will make him want to aim even higher."

The President of the Free State and Northern Cape Golf Union Junior Division, Nicky Nel, also praised the performances of the two players.

"It is definitely the first time we have had two SAGDB products winning two divisions as well as the overall competition," she said. "I am very proud of Mojalefa and Tumelo because they are certainly worthy winners."

She also commended the work done by the SAGDB's coaches and development manager in the region.

"They could not have done it if it was not for the hard work and commitment that the SAGDB team puts in to these children," she said. "It is great to see so many SAGDB players in our tournaments."
