Boost for Free State & Northern Cape

The Free State & Northern Cape Golf Union has thrown its support behind the SAGDB's operations in the region. The union's president, Mr. Peter Hantan, has pledged R80 000 from the union towards supporting the SAGDB programme.

"We enjoy a good relationship with Mr. Hantan and he has passion for the growth of the sport at junior level," says the SAGDB's development manager in the region Ratha Motaung. "His assistance will make a big difference to our players."

The funds pledged by the union are drawn from the annual subscription fees paid by affiliated golfers to the union. In an agreement between the SA Golf Association and the SAGA, all unions are encouraged to form partnerships with the SAGDB to grow the sport in their respective regions.

The funds from the Free State & Northern Cape Golf Union will be used to support the participation of SAGDB players in official Junior Golf tournaments in the region. They will be used for costs such as transport, entry fees and accommodation.

"Our elite squad members have not been able to attend all of the twelve Free State & Northern Cape Junior Golf tournaments due to our limited budgets," Motaung explains. "As such, they have been at a disadvantage when it comes to selection from provincial teams. However, with this support they will now be able to play in all the Junior Golf tournaments and be able to prove their talent."
