Success in Southern Cape

Chandre Roberts won the girls division at the junior golf event at Fancourt's Outeniqua course

The SAGDB's programme in the Southern Cape region is going from strength to strength. Players are putting in consistently good performances in junior golf tournaments and coming into contention for selection to their age group provincial teams.

The top players in the region showed their talent again at the two most recent junior golf events at the Fancourt Outeniqua course and Kingswood Golf Estate.

At Fancourt, 13-year old Franklin Manchest carried on his good run of form this year by taking the A division nett prize. Chandre Roberts also carded an excellent round, finishing as the best girl in the field.

Chester Appels finished as runner-up in the B Division, while Keenan Johnson took second place in the C Division.

At Kingswood a few days later, 17-year old Robin Meyer ended second overall, which also boosted his chances of making the u/18 inter-provincial team for the end of the year. He moved up to ninth place in the age group stroke averages.

13-year old Riaan Grootboom was the runner-up for the A Division nett prize, but the real highlight for him was his first hole in one! He aced the 17th to earn the envy of all his playing partners.

Also at Kingswood, Janiquan Olifant finished as runner up for the B Division nett prize.

"September was a very good month for the SAGDB regional squad," said the SAGDB's head coach for the region Carlo Kok. "They played really well in both tournaments and we are proud of what they achieved."
