Central Gauteng gets in the spirit

Since the SAGDB's operations in Central Gauteng were restored earlier this year, the golfing public in the region has embraced the vision of the programme. The SAGDB's development manager for the region, Andy Ostle, has been thrilled by support he has received from golfers, clubs and the corporate sector.

"Adams Golf is supplying us with second hand golf shoes and golf bags, while The Golfers Club has donated a supply of various golf clubs which have been cut down for the younger players," he says. "The Wanderers Pro Shop has also given us a selection of clubs."

Royal Johannesburg & Kensington also got behind the SAGDB at its recent week-long Festival of Golf. They asked all the players to donate any old golf equipment and managed to collect three bakkie loads worth of goods that were sent to the SAGDB.

Ostle adds that a number of other clubs in the Central Gauteng region have also offered to donate second hand clubs, and he is looking forward to these contributions.

In addition, well-known pro Gavan Levenson has added his weight to the growing support for development in the region.

"Gavan has been superb in supplying us with old range balls," Ostle says. "So far I am sure he has given us in the region of 4000 balls and counting!"
