SAGDB players impress at KZN-u23 Champs

Ten current and former players from the SA Golf Development Board competed at the recent KwaZulu-Natal u23 Golf Championships at Amanzimtoti Country Club. All the players were single figure golfers that have come through the development programme in the province.

The two best performers were Sphelele Ndlovu and Calvin Coelho, who both shot 36-hole scores of 150 to finish tied 15th. Their performances were good enough to secure their places in the eight-man KZN u23 team for the national championships taking place in Limpopo from 19 to 23 April.

Coelho has been a member of the u23 squad for the past three years, while Ndlovu secured his selection by finishing sixth on the regional u23 order of merit.

"Overall, I'm so happy for our two boys that made the team," said Joseph Kunene, the SAGDB's manager in KZN. "We wish them the best of luck!"

Two youngsters from Umhlali also put in impressive performances. 15-year old Siyanda Mwandla, who plays off a 9-handicap, shot 85 and 80 for a 36-hole tally of 165. 16-year old Sphelele Mbokazi finished one shot further back, after rounds of 87 and 79.
